Coming across Summertime Rendering by chance made Hideo Kojima a huge fan.
Hideo Kojima, a famous video game designer known for creating Metal Gear and Death Stranding, is pleased with how “surprisingly good” the series is. Describing Summer Time Rendering as a “Time Loop x Stolen City (Body Snatchers) in the Wakayama version,” Kojima warmly praised the character design, writing, animation, and direction. Kojima also initially thought the series was “a joke when Ushio showed up”, but changed his mind as he continued watching and concluded, “this is sick!” The video game designer confessed to watching 10 episodes in one night.
Kojima’s stamp of approval makes summer rendering fans suspense
Twitter users expressed their excitement to see Kojima join the Summertime Rendering community. One commented: “I don’t need MAL [My Anime List] anymore. Kojima-sensei is not mine. 1 anime review source,” and another wrote, “HIDEO GOATJIMA GIVES THE HIGH GRACE OF RECEIVING IT DESERVES”. lacks ads due to its streaming platform limitations.
Although the anime adaptation for Summertime Rendering has been garnering much anticipation in the weeks leading up to its premiere, international audiences need help to see the film legally. When the film premieres in April 2022, only audiences in Japan will be able to watch it on Disney+. International streaming platforms began streaming the series in a staggered time frame, starting in May 2022, with the US announcing Hulu as their streaming platform in January of this year. 2023.
The plot of Summertime Rendering
Written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka, Summertime Rendering follows Shinpei Ajiro, who returns to his hometown on Hitogashima Island in Wakayama Prefecture to attend the funeral of his friend Ushio. However, Shinpei suspects foul play towards the alleged cause of death of Ushio. Strange things have been happening on the island, with some whispering of seeing copies of themselves, known as shadows. Things get even more bizarre when a shadow kills Shinpei, sending him into a time loop from which he can’t get out until he understands what’s going on.
A video game called Summer Time Rendering: Another Horizon was released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan on January 26, 2023. Summertime Rendering also announced a live-action project.
Summertime Rendering is currently available to stream on Hulu for viewers in the US and Netflix in select countries.
