One of the world's largest theme parks, Universal Studios Hollywood, has announced the launch of a new Hello Kitty cafe, marking the latest in a series of stores dedicated to the famous kitty across the United States and beyond.
Via X (formerly Twitter), Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) has announced that a new Hello Kitty and Friends Café and Sanrio Smile Shop will be coming to the Universal CityWalk location. An opening date has not been announced; however, the two new stores are expected to replace Francesca’s and Chick Chick Chicken locations. You can see the announcement, which is described as “Coming Soon,” below.

News surrounding USH's newest addition has been building for weeks; Theme Park Wizard's July 17 vlog confirmed Chick Chick Chicken and Francesca's were fenced in, notably adding to fans that he expects the new Hello Kitty cafe to open later this year. It will join Universal Studios Hollywood's Hello Kitty Shop and another at the Orlando resort.
Hello Kitty Café’s rapid expansion across North America has seen two locations open in Las Vegas, as well as temporary truck stops in Oregon, Maryland, Washington state and DC scheduled for this month. That will also include California, where there’s a Hello Kitty Grand Café in Irvine. Canada just got its first Hello Kitty Café in May, celebrating its grand opening with a meet-and-greet with Hello Kitty herself. Outside of store locations, the famous kitty’s recent food collaborations have resulted in Hello Kitty boba and, last month, a limited-edition Hello Kitty ice cream with Van Leeuwen. Her versatility and influence on all things cute make her an unsurprising addition to USH, one of the world’s largest theme parks and a major revenue driver for Sanrio. The company was ranked 14th in License Global’s “Top Global Licensing Companies 2024 Report.”
