I really felt like I stepped into a completely different show. Am I the only one who feels this way? Last week we ended on a cliffhanger, and based on the tone of the show, I’m guessing there’s a 50-50 chance that it makes absolutely no sense or that it will somehow tie in with an overarching story. It turns out it’s more like the former than the latter. I think there’s some disturbing foreshadowing going on here that could play a role later but overall, last week’s episode took a major detour. But that’s okay because sometimes you need a little light time before getting back into the action, right? It turned out that Helck wanted to take another week off to tell us what was going on back home. So let’s do a spin-off episode/short about cooking shows.
I have a feeling that if you’ve gotten this far in the show you’ll be very determined to see it through to the end but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the point where everyone decides to walk away. It’s funny and it has a lot of adorable moments that really made me laugh, especially when it comes to the reactions involving Piwi and Vermilio. My favorite part was Piwi singing with the women in the town square. At first I didn’t feel anything for this bird but they are growing on me. However, most of this episode I just spent staring at my screen with my mouth open wondering what I was supposed to learn from this.
It feels like the author wrote this episode to make fun of a specific group of people and I don’t fit into that category. It feels like this has always been an attractive point in the author’s works and now I’m just starting to “understand” it. That makes this episode extremely difficult to rate on its own but I have to because if I compared it to a larger story I would walk away feeling a bit disappointed. It looks like the show will be following Helck and Vermilio for the next few episodes so I imagine there will be a huge change in the status quo when we return to the demon empire. However, it’s now become extremely clear that we’re not going to get there for a while, and I really don’t know whether that’s a good thing or not.
