The Boy and the Heron theme song artist Kenshi Yonezu revealed that he made Hayao Miyazaki cry with this song in a new interview for the upcoming film. He sat down with the Japanese voice actor for Gray Heron, Masaki Suda, as he explained the production process of the song “Spinning Globe” and how scared he was when he finally played it: “ I really thought I would die the most at this time,” Yonezu said. “I asked, “What do you think about this?” We recorded the song on CD and met in person. We sang that song directly to him. In a way, I felt like I was going to the execution ground. That is my feeling. But, you know, seeing him sitting right in front of me, listening to it… He even cried. I felt in that moment, I will never forget that scene.”
“Spinning Globe” by Kenshi Yonezu peaked at number 3 on the Oricon chart and stayed on the chart for 15 weeks. This emotional song has over 17 million views on YouTube and was featured in the recent Korean trailer for The Boy and the Heron. In addition to the success of “Spinning Globe”, Yonezu’s “KICK BACK” marks the first Japanese song to receive RIAA gold certification. Often mysterious director Hayao Miyazaki had many other anecdotes about him and The Boy and the Heron revealed in an interview with famous animator Toshiyuki Inoue.
