The Harvey Awards, which honor excellence in comics and serialized art, announced the nominees for this year's awards on Wednesday. The nominees for Best Manga are:
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Hinokami Chronicles — Sega's game based on Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga — and Attack on Titan: The Musical — Gō Ueki's stage musical based on Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga — each received nominations in the Best Adaptation of a Manga/Graphic Novel category.
The Harvey Awards added a Best Manga category in 2018. Kabi Nagata's Lesbian Experience with Solitude won the inaugural award in the category. Kōhei Horikoshi's My Hero AcadeKaren won the award in 2019 and Kamome Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier won the award in 2020. Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man won the award in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
In previous years, manga have been nominated alongside other comics in the “Best American Foreign Edition” category. The most recent manga to win in this category was Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan in 2014. One-Punch Man and Showa: A History of Japan (1953-1989) were nominated in 2016 but did not win. “Best American Foreign Edition” is no longer a category.
Unlike the Eisner Awards and other awards in the North American comics industry, the Harvey Awards are nominated and selected by comics professionals themselves.
The Harvey Awards will announce the winner at New York Comic Con on October 18.
