To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star series, the casts of both anime will reunite for special live on-stage readings of stories that have never been animated in March 10. The reading will be part of the”SOS Appreciation Festival☆at Tokorozawa Sakura Town in Saitama from March 9 to March 24.

The stage reading will be divided into daytime and evening sections. Aya Hirano, Kaori Fukuhara, Emiri Katō and Aya Endo will reprise their roles from Lucky Star during a daytime session reading the story written by anime series script supervisor Touko Machida. Hirano, Minori Chihara and Yuko Goto then reprized their roles in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to read the script based on the story “The Wandering Shadow” in the novel The Indignation of Haruhi Suzumiya in the evening.
The tribute festival will also feature screenings of selected episodes and panel discussions with the cast on March 9, 16 and 23.
Fans can try their luck in the pre-draw for tickets starting on January 20. Fasn can also buy a separate ticket to watch the live stream of the event on the Niconico and Streaming+ services until March 17.
The first season of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya premiered in 2006 in a non-linear order and was rebroadcast in 2009 with new episodes and a new chronological order. The story is adapted from the novel The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito. Bandai Entertainment previously held the license for both series. Kyoto Animation animated the first and second seasons of the series.
The Light Novel was first published in 2003.
Kadokawa’s Comptiq magazine has serialized the Lucky Star manga since the January 2004 issue, and Kadokawa published the 10th compiled book volume in Japan in November 2014. Yoshimizu discontinued the original manga in 2014 as he was planning planning for a new project.
Yoshimizu’s story of four female students has inspired many authors. spin-off manga as well as the 2007 Lucky Star television anime, an original video anime (OVA) project, and the 2013 Miyakawa-ke no Kūfuku spin-off anime. Bandai Entertainment released part of the original Lucky Star manga, a television series images and OVAs in North America. Funimation streamed the anime and Crunchyroll previously streamed it as well.
