In short, the story revolves around a child named Makunouchi Ippo, who has been bullied all his life; He was always running errands and getting beaten up by his classmates. He had always thought of changing himself for the better but never had the courage and passion to act on his decision.
Boxer Takamura Mamoru once again rescues Ippo when he is bullied one day. Ippo was beaten so badly that he lost consciousness from his injuries, and Takamura took him to the Takamura Boxing Gym to rest and recuperate.
When he first regained consciousness, Ippo was amazed at his surroundings because it was all new and shiny to him. Although he desperately wanted to use the gym’s equipment, he lacked the confidence to do so. After observing him for a while, Takamura came up with an idea. He instructs him to punch the sandbag as hard as he can while his classmate’s picture is placed on it.
Ippo then experienced an inner agitation that wasn’t quite the same as punching his classmate but gave him a positive feeling. He begs Takamura to be his instructor and teach him boxing.
Takamura believes that Ippo lacks the necessary skills, so he gives him a task to complete in a week to test his ability and willingness to learn. He only has a week to complete the task, which seems impossible. Ippo suddenly feels the need to transform in order to become stronger for himself and his devoted mother, whom he longs to protect.
Ippo worked tirelessly day and night to complete his task within the allotted time. And so Ippo’s adventure of becoming a boxer begins. Ippo is ready to face all the ups and downs ahead. Read on to find out what opens.
