Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Our Dinosaurary, the 31st 2D animated film in the Crayon Shin-chan film series, ranked #2 in its second weekend. The film sold 254,000 tickets and earned 320,783,100 yen (about US$2.20 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film has sold a total of 1.11 million tickets and earned a cumulative total of 1,371,890,000 yen (about US$9.44 million).
The film opened at number 2 at the Japanese box office over the weekend of August 9–11. The film sold 365,000 tickets and earned 455,302,200 yen (about US$3.05 million) in its first three days, selling 510,000 tickets and earning 636 million yen (about US$4.32 million) in its first four days, including Monday (August 12 is Mountain Day, a holiday in Japan).
The film opened in Japan on August 9.
The film tells the story of the friendship between the Nobara family's pet dog Shiro and the “little dinosaur”. Their bond helps the development of Shinnosuke and the Kasukabe Defense Team.
Takumi Kitamura guest stars in the film as Billy, a dinosaur-loving biologist who works with the Kasukabe Defense Team. Comedians Ozwald Yū Hatanaka and Shunsuke Itō also guest star in the film as Chū and Ammoner Itō, respectively.
Shinobu Sasaki (director of many Duel Masters anime including the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Duel Masters TV anime) directed the film. Moral, who wrote the script for the Crayon Shin-chan TV series, wrote the script.
Rock band My Hair is Bad performs the film's theme song “Omoide o Kakenukete”(Run Past Your Memories).

My Hero AcadeKaren THE MOVIE: You're Next (My Hero AcadeKaren: You're Next), the fourth anime film in the My Hero AcadeKaren franchise, ranked third in the weekend's third-weekend box office. The film sold 210,000 tickets and earned 313,633,200 yen (about US$2.16 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film sold a total of 1.65 million tickets and earned a total of 2,383,052,000 yen (about US$16.42 million).
The film opened in Japan on August 2. It sold 608,500 tickets and earned approximately 895 million yen (about US$6.28 million) in its first three days. It was screened simultaneously in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema formats. TOHO International will release the film in theaters in the United States on October 11. The film will be subtitled and dubbed in English.
The film's initial antagonists are members of a large, mysterious criminal organization called The”Gorrini Family.”
Tensai Okamura (Darker than Black) is directing the film at BONES. Returning staff from the television series and previous films include screenwriter Yōsuke Kuroda, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, and composer Yuki Hayashi. Voundy performs the theme song “Homunculus” as well as the ending theme song “Gift”.
Original manga author Kōhei Horikoshi served as chief supervisor and original character designer. The film has an original story that takes place at the same time as the current TV anime, with the collapse of safe society. In the film, a mysterious giant fortress and a man resembling the former “Symbol of Peace” suddenly appear in a society that has collapsed due to war.

Kingdom: Taishogun no Kikan (Return of the General), the live-action film of the Fourth Kingdom, rose from No. 5 to No. 4 in its sixth weekend. The film earned 295,500,700 yen (about $2.03 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film sold a total of 4.62 million tickets and earned a total of 6,823,908,500 yen (about $47.01 million).
The film opened on July 12. It sold 1,065,000 tickets and grossed 1.629 billion yen (about US$10.28 million) in its first three days. The film sold 1.46 million tickets in its first four days of release, including Monday (which is a Marine Corps holiday in Japan), and grossed 2.2 billion yen (about US$13.89 million) during that time.
The film covers the Shi Ka (Zi Xia) arc of the manga and the Battle of Bayou – the first time Shin (Xin) and Ō Ki (Wang Qi) stand together on the battlefield, to fight against the invasion of the powerful Chō (Zhao) from the north. Anne (Anne Watanabe) returns as the pivotal character Shi Ka (Zi Xia). Other cast members include Kataoka Ainosuke VI as Fuu Ki (Feng Ji), Kōji Yamamoto as Chō Sō (Zhao Zhuang), Yuki Yamada as Man Goku (Wan Ji), Eri Murakawa as You Li (Yū Ri), Hinako Sakurai as Dong Mei (Tō Bi), and Yūki Araki as Kyō.
Kento Yamazaki, Ryō Yoshizawa, Takao Osawa and Kanna Hashimoto all reprise their respective characters Shin (Xin), Ei Sei (Yin Zheng), Ō Ki (Wang Qi) and Ka Ryō Ten (He Liao Diao), respectively, from the previous two films. Nana Seino, Hiroshi Tamaki and Kōichi Satō from the second film also reprise their respective characters Kyо̄ Kai, Sho Hei Kun (Lord Changping) and Ryo Fui (Lu Buwei).
Shinsuke Satō (live-action Gantz, Death Note Light up the NEW world, Bleach) returns as director. Manga author Yasuhisa Hara and Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film Gold, live-action Black Butler, GANTZ:O) return to write the script.

HAIKYU!! Garbage Dump Battle (Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen), the first film in the two-part Haikyu!! sequel project, finally jumped back into the top 10 at No. 6. This is the film's 27th week in theaters in Japan and its ninth week since it last entered the top 10 on the weekend of June 14-16. The film had a new event on Sunday to introduce new merchandise to audiences as well as a new talk event featuring the cast that was streamed to viewers nationwide. The film earned 153,850,300 yen (about $1.06 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film has sold a total of 8.06 million tickets and earned a cumulative total of 11,553,358,460 yen (about $79.62 million).
The film opened in Japan on February 16 and is also being shown in IMAX. Susumu Mitsunaka (first, third Haikyu!! television anime) is both directing and writing the film.
The film sold 1,529,000 tickets for 2,230,465,540 yen (about US$14.12 million) in its first three days of release.
The anime production team announced two films in August 2022. The first film depicts the “fateful duel” between Karasuno High School and Nekoma High School.

The First Slam Dunk, the anime adaptation of Takehiko Inoue's basketball manga Slam Dunk, also re-entered the top 10 at No. 9 after revival screenings began on August 13. The film earned 93,556,170 yen (about $644,400) from Friday to Sunday. The film sold a total of 11.19 million tickets and earned a total of 16,220,197,690 yen (about $111 million). The film has now surpassed James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar to become the 12th highest-grossing film ever in Japan.
The film opened in Japan in December 2022 and debuted at number one in its opening weekend. It sold 847,000 tickets and earned 1,295,808,780 yen (about $9.50 million) in its opening weekend. The film was last revived in January.
By June 2023, the film had sold over 10 million tickets and grossed 14.43 billion yen (about US$103.5 million at the time) in Japan, after about half a year in theaters. The film ended its main run in Japan after about nine months in August 2023.
GKIDS released the film theatrically in the United States and Canada with both an English dub, Japanese audio, and English subtitles in July 2023. The film grossed $662,211 in its opening weekend in North America. GKIDS released the film on Blu-ray Disc on June 25, with Shout! Studios distributing. The film will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States starting August 25.

Bandai Namco Filmworks' sequel to Zegapain STA (Zegapain Statement Alpha) opened at #2 in the mini-cinema charts.
The film opens on August 16.
Shintarō Asanuma, Kana Hanazawa, Ayako Kawasumi, and Romi Park return from the previous anime as their characters Kyo Sogoru, Ryoko Kaminagi, Shizuno Misaki, and Lu Sheng, respectively.
Masami Shimoda returns from the previous Zegapain anime as director at Sunrise. Katsuhiko Takayama (Aldnoah.Zero, Ga-Rei: Zero, Looking Up At The Half-Moon) is writing the series script. Akihiko Yamashita returns as character designer, along with fellow character designers Tatsuya Suzuki and Marie Tagashira, who later served as character designers for new footage in the Zegapain ADP compilation film. Rei Nakahara, Noriyuki Jinguji, Takahiro Yamada, and Hideki Fukushima all return from the previous anime as mechanical designers. Ayako Ōtsuka is also returning to compose the music.
The film has two parts. The first part, titled “Reminiscence Arc”, retells the Zegapain animated television series and the Zegapain ADP (Zegapain Adaptation) compilation film. The second part, titled “Olta Moda Arc”, depicts the future after the final episode of the Zegapain television series. The “Olta Moda Arc” is named after a “new force” in the Zegapain world.
The 25th anniversary screening of the anime film Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie ranked No. 1 in the mini-cinema rankings in its second weekend.
