Guinness World Records has certified Jujutsu Kaisen as “the most requested animated TV show”, and called it “the most popular anime in the world”. The series surpassed Attack on Titan, which had held the record since 2020.
The company explained that this decision was based on information from data science company Parrot Analytics. According to data, Jujutsu Kaisen has a “global demand rating” 71.2 times higher than the average TV series. Parrot Analytics calculates “demand” based on billions of recorded data points, such as video consumption, social media engagement, and research actions (e.g. reading about shows online ). Actions that require more effort on the part of the consumer, such as watching or downloading a program, will be weighed more heavily.
According to the company, One Piece and previous record holder Attack on Titan were close to taking the top spot. One Piece already has a live-action Netflix adaptation to attract new viewers, and Attack on Titan aired a special final episode last year. However, it was the sheer strength of Jujutsu Kaisen's two-course (quarter-year) second season that carried it to the end of 2023. Guinness World Records reports that demand for Jujutsu Kaisen peaked in December 29, 128 times the world's demand. average performance. Jujutsu Kaisen has a higher percentage of Gen Z viewers (ages 13-22) at 71.3%, compared to One Piece (56.7%) and Attack on Titan (64.4%).
Attack on Titan still holds the record for “largest comic book published,” thanks to the manga's large-scale graphic novel printing. Meanwhile, Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga holds the record for “most copies published for the same manga series by one author.”
The second season of the television anime adaptation of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen manga premiered last July and aired for two seasons (quarters of a year) for half a year consecutively. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. The anime will have a sequel adapting the manga's “Culling Game” (Shimetsu Kaiyū) arc.
The TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen premiered in October 2020 and the first season had 24 episodes. The anime film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 opened in Japan in December 2021 and opened with English subtitles and an English dub in the United States and Canada in March 2022.
