Summary
Goku and Krillin trained hard with Master Roshi, but a fan animation showed a peaceful moment in the car. Fan-made animation depicting a scene from the Dragon Ball manga not used in the anime. In today's high-stakes Dragon Ball Super sequel, these moments of fan-animated relaxation are rare and precious.
'Relaxing' might be the last way one would describe it Goku And KrillinIt's time to practice with Master Roshi in the early days of Dragon ball canon, as Roshi ensures his two young students become strong enough to take on the most powerful people on the planet – including himself. However, just because most of their time together is tiring, doesn't mean all of it is, and a fan animation has revived one of those 'relaxing' moments .
In a Reddit post shared on the DBZ subreddit called Dragon World by user seacar14, the animator/artist shared an animation featuring Master Roshi, Krillin, and Goku driving a car together on street, looking as if they didn't have a care in the world. The animation style is identical to the Dragon Ball anime, giving the impression that this is actually a scene from the actual series.
Master Roshi was driving, Krillin was in the front seat. Goku sits on the cargo rack on the roof of the car, wearing a straw hat and eating an apple. The founding family drove to a small farm on a seemingly traffic-free road. The animation is smooth and repetitive, making it seem like these three people are constantly in control, forever caught up in a brief but incredibly peaceful and serene moment.
The Dragon Ball fan animation is based on a scene from the Manga that was not used in the Anime
Dragon Ball chapter 31 by Akira Toriyama/Dragon Ball episode 18
The animation itself isn't the only thing featured in this Reddit post, as user seacar14 also included the Dragon Ball manga page they adapted their animation from. The page in question is actually the cover of Dragon Ball chapter 31, the plot of which was adapted into episode 18 of the classic Dragon Ball anime.
That episode shows Goku and Krillin training with Master Roshi in some interesting ways, including delivering milk, pushing rocks, and even being chased by dinosaurs. Although different, each lesson has one thing in common: they are not relaxing. In the manga, however, this equally comforting story begins after the peaceful image of the three of them driving across the country, giving readers a moment of pause before jumping into action. And now, that manga moment has finally made it to the anime (albeit just a fan-made video).
Relaxing Dragon Ball fan animation only highlights the series' dark future
This moment, while animated by a fan, is typical in the Dragon Ball manga at a time when the most important thing in the lives of Goku, Krillin and Master Roshi is becoming strong enough to win in the World Martial Arts Tournament. Moving on to the current Dragon Ball Super sequel, Krillin and Master Roshi are barely in Goku's life anymore, while Goku trains with gods, opponents, and legendary Super Saiyans to stop Black. Frieza, a villain stronger than literal gods. a danger to the entire universe.
The stakes are extremely high in the current Dragon Ball series, making seacar14's cartoonishly relaxing moments that much more meaningful. Regardless of ongoing Super continuity concerns, there's no such tension in this fan-animated moment where Goku, KrillinAnd Master Roshi finally having a moment of relaxation – a moment that has been long overdue for an animated film Dragon ball suitability.
