To say that the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom is waiting for Gojo's return would be an understatement. Since the character died in chapter 236, fans have since come up with many theories about how he could have come back from the dead.
However, no matter how many theories and potential clues there are, they are all in vain. Although Gojo appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271, he was not revived. It was just Yuji's recollection, when he shared his deepest thoughts about Mr. Gojo.
Even though it wasn't the comeback fans were hoping for, it was incredibly sad. In the flashback, Gojo and Yuji have a heartfelt reminisce. Gojo tells Yuji that he has loves and dreams like everyone else. He doesn't want people to forget him, but he understands that people will abandon him.
When Yuji declared that he would never forget Gojo, the deceased necromancer said that it was only temporary and that it was only a matter of time, before even Yuji no longer remembered him clearly. But the Six Eyes user encouraged Yuji to move forward, sharing that he had high hopes for his student.
This scene in the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen is enough to make readers cry.
This moment not only gives us a glimpse of the beloved character but also sheds light on how he sees himself. Gojo always feels lonely (unless he's with Geto) and his words to Yuji once again prove that heartbreaking truth.
Fans may feel sad when Gojo appears in chapter 271, especially since everyone was hoping he would be revealed to be still alive, like some other supposedly 'dead' characters like Nobara and Higuruma.
Fans expressed reluctance about Gojo's appearance in the final chapter: “Mentioning Gojo right in the last chapter, after forgetting he existed, just to make him say the most heartbreaking thing ever.”
“Gege putting Gojo in the last chapter just to make Gojo fans sad again, what an extremely cruel thing to do.”another person added.
Although Gojo seemed to be forgotten by the rest of the characters, as he was barely mentioned by anyone after the Shinjuku Showdown arc, he will forever be the most beloved character in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271 will officially release on September 29, 2024.
