The Super Dragon Balls: Broly the film is a fan favorite for many reasons, and it also includes one of the franchise’s greatest ironies when reliefs makes a shocking confession that he wishes to be taller, rather than immortal. However, that moment serves a deeper purpose. When Frieza stole another Dragon Ball villain’s wish, he proved what makes him such a compelling character.
Frieza really wanted to ask for the Dragon Balls to be 5 cm longer, the same way Commander Red of the Red Ribbon Army wanted to be taller in Dragon Ball. While it’s humorous in itself, the reasoning behind Frieza’s choice to wish for something other than immortality is both serious and convincing. He experienced the horror of not being able to die during his time in Hell. Similarly, Frieza’s choice also provides more insight into how he wants to dominate his enemies and why he remains Dragon Ball’s most popular villain.
Frieza stole his ironic dragon whip, but it suits him perfectly
The Red Commander’s explanation of why he wants to be taller is ironically shallow and pathetic than he could have wished for. And yet, it led to one of the darkest twists ever in the franchise. Staff officer Black was so disgusted by the idea that so many of the Red Ribbon’s men died in pursuit of such a worthless wish so he avenged them by killing them. commanded Red cold-bloodedly, before taking control of the Red Ribbon Army in pursuit of more grand ending glory.
Officer Black’s response was perfect considering Commander Red’s absurdity. It successfully transformed a completely ludicrous desire into something meaningful by emphasizing the implication of what something absurd actually means to those who died to serve. for such a worthless wish. Interestingly, it is remarkable to compare Officer Black’s reaction to that of Frieza’s Force members. Instead of reacting with legitimate indignation, they are forced to revel in the absurd. Almost in stark contrast to how Frieza has been confirmed as a good leader, what this comparison achieves is to emphasize how much more ferocious and terrifying Frieza is as a villain than with the Red Commander.
Frieza’s wish really makes him look stronger
Black has the means to stage a successful, incident-free coup, but the same cannot be said for Frieza’s Force. Frieza is so powerful in relation to them that his force members have no choice but to absorb his absurdities. In addition, while being an evil villain, Frieza is also a proud warrior, always cherishing destroying his enemies with his own strength. As his Frieza Black form recently demonstrated, when Frieza truly sets his mind on something, no one can stand in his way. Therefore, using dragon balls to “cheat” to defeat enemies or conquer the universe doesn’t really fit Frieza’s personality. So while Frieza’s wish resembles another villain’s wish, it still says a lot about by Frieza domination in the galaxy and why is he still the most popular Dragon ball villain.
