The prequel novel series The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has revealed its cover ahead of its April 17 release date. The novel is titled Shosetsu Soso no Frieren ~Zenso~ and will be written by Mei Hachimoku (author of the novel light theory Tunnel to Summer, the exit of goodbye). The novel will have five origin stories, revolving around Frieren, Fern, Stark, Kanne/Lawine and Aura. Those are the characters on the cover.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End returned with season 2 this winter and is scheduled to end next week on March 22. Studio MADHOUSE is producing the animation, while Crunchyroll is streaming it outside of Japan . The main anime staff includes Keiichiro Saito as director, Tomohiro Suzuki as scriptwriter, Reiko Nagasawa as character designer and Evan Call as music composer. Atsumi Tanezaki will voice the main character Frieren.
The anime is based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday manga magazine since April 2020. The manga’s 13th volume will release at the same time as the prequel novel. Viz Media licensed the original manga in English, and they describe the story:
The elven mage Frieren and her brave companions defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. When the great struggle ended, they all went their separate ways to live a peaceful life. But as an elf, Frieren, being virtually immortal, will outlive the rest of her old group. How will she cope with her friends’ deaths? How can she find fulfillment in her own life and can she learn to understand what life means to those around her? Frieren begins a new journey to find the answer.
Anime The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was voted the Best Animated Movie of Fall 2023, and it also won the awards for Best Boy (Stark), Best Girl (Fern), Adaptation Best, Best Drama and Best Opening (“Yuusha” by YOASOBI) awards. In our 2023 Anime of the Year Awards, Frieren won Best New Anime, Best Adaptation, Best Fantasy, Best Adventure, and placed 2nd in the Best TV Series and 3rd in the Best Animation category.
