The following contains major spoilers for Attack on Titan The Final Chapters Special 2.
Attack on Titan fans are using X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok as coping mechanisms after the emotional anime series finale.
The Attack on Titan series finally ended in a brutal battle after a decade of blood, suffering, and dedication from both fans and characters. Users on What Calaway, known professionally as The Undertaker, means to him and WWE. However, among all the reactions on social media in the form of memes, posts and responses, the words “never move on” were among the most popular.
When the Attack on Titan manga ended in 2021, author Hajime Isayama faced quite a bit of backlash from fans for not being satisfied with the ending. Before the anime series finale, Isayama released a statement asking fans to watch until the end of the episode, as he included some rough draft content.
The final episode of the Attack on Titan anime had a few small but important changes that made a difference for fans. The tragic fate of anti-hero Eren Yeager remains the same; he was tearfully kissed by Mikasa as she beheaded him, although in the anime, Eren kept his eyes open, Mikasa was the last thing he saw before he died. Armin’s controversial line, “Thank you for turning yourself into a serial killer for our sake,” was changed and Armin instead thanked Eren for showing him life on the side. outside the wall.
A few more scenes were added, including extended panels of Mikasa and Eren — there’s even a scene in which Mikasa’s trip to the afterlife (much later) shows her holding hands with someone which many fans believe is Eren Yeager, leading them to think that perhaps they have finally been reunited in the afterlife.
The finale also spans several additional scenes designed to show the severity of Eren’s crimes, including the river of blood and the Paradis bombing. One of the most memorable for fans is the final exchange between Armin and Eren, in which instead of Eren telling Armin that he will be the one to save humanity and overcome the walls, Armin tells Eren that they will be together forever in hell.
Several additional scenes were added to help round out other supporting character storylines, including Gabi and Falco planting a tree. The final scene of the young traveler in front of the infamous tree was also preserved – an ambiguous ending but with the general consensus being that the war cycle repeats itself. Some fans took this as a hint for the series to follow, although nothing of this nature has been confirmed by the franchise’s creators.
The overall reaction from fans was one of satisfactory devastation. There seems to be a greater sense of closure at the end of the anime than at the end of the manga — possibly a welcome change for Isayama, who in 2022 revealed he still had doubts about the ending mine. A lot of people were in tears calling this series a masterpiece that they won’t be sharing with children or talking about anytime soon.
The final episode of the Attack on Titan: Final Chapter Part 2 series is now available to stream on Crunchyroll.
