Different continuity of Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in The Shell SAC_2045 is a sequel to 2002’s Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the anime that introduced a new storyline to the series. Stand Alone Complex also establishes its own continuity, separate from the original manga and 1995 anime, this time highlighting Public Security Team 9’s role in preventing societal collapse due to terrorism and government corruption. Standalone Complex ran for two seasons and was continued by Solid State Society, a 2006 anime series in which former agent Togusa is now the head of Team 9 and Major Kusanagi runs it himself. Ghost in The Shell SAC_2045 takes place nine years after the events in that film.
Ghost in The Shell SAC_2045 has shown two 12-episode seasons on Netflix. Created by Production IG and Sola Digital Arts, the first season premiered in April 2020, followed by the second season in May 2022. The series is stylistically distinct from its franchise counterparts commercial as the first motion-captured CGI animated film.
The entire Ghost in the Shell series is now hosted on a new global website, regularly updated with new content and creator commentary.
