Nami’s appearance in Netflix’s One Piece has been adapted into a figure by Bandai’s SHFiguarts brand — and this is causing controversy among fans.
Nami’s appearance in Netflix’s One Piece has been captured in iconography by Bandai’s “SHFiguarts” franchise — and it’s proving to be deeply divisive among fans.
First introduced at the BANDAI SPIRITS booth at Jump Festa 2024, SHFiguart’s Nami character caused some controversy among audiences who felt it failed to capture her resemblance to her actress, Emily Rudd. After a recent X post by BANDAI SPIRITS (formerly Twitter) teasing the figure’s upcoming arrival in stores, some Japanese fans responded: “For a moment… she looked like a old man…” and “Not cute at all (‘・ω)・`) Emily is even cuter.” Images of the characters have since gone viral, along with other reactions from X that can be seen below.

One Piece staff revealed the English Canon name for the franchise’s currency
A One Piece expert sparked debate after confirming the standard English translation of the series’ common currency, as opposed to the official manga.
Despite much of the negative sentiment, some fans said they would still get the number – a testament to Rudd’s popularity as Nami in One Piece. A CBR review of One Piece highlighted Rudd’s emotional depth in the series’ iconic “Help Me” scene, creating a believable transformation from a “selfish individual to a Loyal friend and crew member.” Her performance as Marcille in the English dub of Delicious in Dungeon is also making waves as Rudd’s first anime voice role. The film has now been in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for two consecutive weeks with a total of 3.8 million views.
With One Piece Season 1 completed and preparations for Season 2 underway, fans can expect more products to be released in the coming months, capitalizing on the success of the series.
