Assassin’s Creed will be adapted from the first webtoon, following Edward Kenway after the events of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
As revealed by WEBTOON, a new webcomic series titled Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple will release on April 24. Well aware of Assassin’s Creed’s popularity as one of the most popular video games worldwide, REDICE STUDIO set out to “create a work that will not only appeal to fans of the original game, but also including readers who are watching IP Assassin’s Creed for the first time through WEBTOON.” Taking place shortly after Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple follows Edward Kenway, a pirate turned privateer who decides to join the Assassin Brotherhood at the end of Black Flag. Now, on a new quest, the Assassin must travel across the seas, searching along the shores of the seas of Southeast Asia to find Pieces of Eden, a type of technology that allows the user to control humanity over mentally and physically while fending off dangerous and mysterious enemies. Meanwhile, in the present day, a Korean-American descendant of Edward named Noa is searching for information about his family, accidentally discovering Edward’s past.
Julien Fabre, Ubisoft’s Director of Global Media & TV Business Development revealed how excited they were to be partnering with WEBTOON and REDICE STUDIO, saying, “We’ve been working hard with the company. the talented people at REDICE to create this sequel to the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and hope that existing fans and new readers around the world will enjoy it.” David Lee, WEBTOON’s Vice President of Content, expressed a similar view. “As longtime fans of the series, we can’t wait to see where Edward Kenway’s story takes us next,” he said. “This incredible series will appeal to existing fans of the Assassin’s Creed video game while introducing this beloved IP to a new audience on WEBTOON.”
