As one of the most successful new generation shonen manga, Jujutsu Kaisen has received a lot of attention.
Although the work has a fairly tight plot, there are still many things left unexplained. Sadly, since the manga ended at chapter 271, there's nothing more to do with those.
So, let's take a moment to look back at Jujutsu Kaisen's entire journey and talk about the mysteries that were never solved.
What did Gojo say to Geto before finishing him off?
The friendship between Gojo and Geto is one of the most well-written and touching parts of Jujutsu Kaisen, but also one of the most tragic. The two were once very close, always together, until Geto left Jujutsu High, to finish off those who were not spellcasters.
The pair were reunited in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 before meeting one last time, after Geto was defeated by Yuta and escaped to an abandoned alley. Knowing that he would have to end his best friend's life, Gojo said something to Geto, surprising him.
We don't know what Gojo said and why it affected Geto so much. In both the manga and anime, those words were intentionally kept secret, making viewers even more curious.
Is Kaori Itadori a jujutsu spellcaster?
Yuji's family may be the most interesting and underdeveloped storyline in Jujutsu Kaisen. We know that Kenjaku took over Kaori Itadori's body after her death and acquired her curse technique. But other than that, we know nothing about that woman.
Since she has a curse technique, it can be said that she is a jujutsu spellcaster (or a curse user). It's an interesting scenario, but it also leaves a huge plot hole that we can't ignore.
The jujutsu community is pretty small, and if she's a jujutsu spellcaster, why doesn't anyone mention her? Considering that her curse technique is quite powerful and useful, it's completely absurd.
Is Yuta still Limitless?
The fact that Yuta's soul entered Gojo's body was truly one of the worst decisions made by author Gege Akutami. Not only does it not add anything impactful to the story, but it also opens up a bunch of plot holes. That's especially true after Yuta returns to his own body in chapter 269.
Kenjaku's cursed technique allows Yuta to use Six Eyes and Limitless. But now that he has returned to his body, how have his powers changed? Six Eyes is a rare eye ability inherited within the Gojo family and therefore cannot be transferred to others. But what about Limitless?
As Kenjaku was able to retain the techniques of his previous body, so was Yuta, who also had Limitless. However, we don't see any hint of it. It is never explained or even shown clearly in the story.
Who is the woman in Sukuna's vision?
While the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen was not well received by many fans, many agreed that Sukuna's scene was the best part of the finale. It gives the iconic villain a proper farewell and shows a different side to the character. But the frames also raise a question.
In chapter 271, Sukuna finds Mahito in a void after his death and discusses his motivations with the curse. When he talks about having two paths to choose from, he sees two people representing each route.
On one side is Uraume, and on the other side is a mysterious woman with her back turned to him. This chapter doesn't explain who this woman is or what her relationship is to Sukuna, but given the context, it's clear that she's an important figure in the Curse King's life.
The merger never took place
This Jujutsu Kaisen plot hole is the most frustrating because the fusion is supposed to be the final obstacle the heroes must overcome but it never happens. In fact, that's the reason why Kenjaku started Culling Game.
The manga never clearly explains what this merger is, only that it is intended to exterminate the weak of humanity (mainly non-sorcerers). This was so important to Kenjaku that he took the life of his old friend Tengen and transferred access to the merger to Sukuna before dying.
But the merger never happened because the Shinjuku Showdown arc ended right after Sukuna died.
How was Takaba resurrected and who was the man accompanying him?
Although Jujutsu Kaisen is famous for finishing off main characters, it takes a complete 180 degree turn in the last few chapters. Higuruma – who was thought to be dead, is revealed to be alive, as is Takaba.
Takaba died in the Shinjuku Showdown arc after fighting Kenjaku. Later, the villain was killed by Yuta. However, without any explanation, Takaba is shown to still be alive in chapter 270.
Not only that, there was another person with him who looked like Kenjaku (in Geto's body).
What happened to the three major clans?
Although there are three major clans in jujutsu society, we can never see them all properly. The only family that Jujutsu Kaisen focuses on is the Zenin family, while the Gojo and Kamo families mostly stay in the shadows.
The Zenin family was completely destroyed by Maki, leaving only Megumi and her as the only surviving members. Even after Jujutsu Kaisen ended, we still don't know what happened to the Gojo and Kamo clans.
How did Yuta bring Rika back?
Now that Jujutsu Kaisen has ended, we can confidently say that Yuta Okkotsu is one of the coolest characters in the series. Not only is he a great main character in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but he also has the most important role in the final arc of the manga. But there are some questions about Yuta that the manga doesn't adequately answer.
After the battle with Geto, Rika's curse was finally broken and she no longer existed as a curse. It was a beautiful ending, truly closing the story of Yuta and her. However, when Yuta appeared in the sequel manga, he brought the Rika curse with him.
The manga never explains how she returned as a cursed spirit when she was freed from Yuta's curse. In fact, she is used as a plot device, to somehow return Yuta to his own body after Shinjuku Showdown.
Yuji never knew his real parents
As we discussed in the list, Jujutsu Kaisen has a tendency to introduce intriguing plot points before completely ignoring them. Such as with Yuji's family plot.
The fact that Kenjaku is the main character's “mother” is one of the most shocking details in the series, but turns out to be completely insignificant. Yuji never actually has a proper confrontation with Kenjaku and his parents contribute nothing to his personality or the plot.
By the end of the manga, Yuji still did not know about his parents. As fans, we can hypothesize that he might have known but not cared. However, since the story never resolves this, it will remain an unsolved mystery in Jujutsu Kaisen.
