Evangelion: Anima tells an alternate universe missionary story
First published between 2008 and 2013 in Dengeki Hobby Magazine, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Anima is an alternate version of the original anime's Evangelion story. It tells about a world where protagonist Shinji Ikari is able to stop the Human Instrumentation Project from taking place. From then on, he, Asuka Langley Soryu and Rei Ayanami became different characters. Even the EVA units are different, as shown with new versions like Super Evangelion and Evangelion Final Model.
Evangelion continues to be a widely loved franchise due to its influence on both the mecha genre and anime in general. Its most recent success is thanks to the Rebuild of Evangelion series. Like Evangelion: Anima, the story in this series introduces an alternate version of the events of the original series. There also continues to be a series of merchandise and toys released for the business, even though it is nearly three decades old.
