Hideaki Anno announced that his company, Khara Inc., has acquired the rights to produce new animation for the series Space Battleship Yamato.

During the event, Anno revealed that Khara had acquired the production rights from Voyager Holdings, the company that oversaw the original series, and received permission to use the copyright from Tohokushinsha Film Corporation.
“This time, Khara Inc. has been granted the rights by Voyager Holdings, represented by President Shoji Nishizaki, to create a new animation work based on'Space Battleship Yamato'. At the same time, we have received permission to use copyright from Tohokushinsha Film Corporation.“
Speaking at the event, Anno expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying: “With this, I can now create a new operational Space Battleship Yamato.”
While details about the new work remain under wraps, Khara's official statement hinted that the project will follow a different route than previous remakes, e.g. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Yamato Forever REBEL3199 Coming soon, scheduled for release in November 2024.
The new theatrical film is currently in the planning stages, with production expected to begin in 2025, according to Khara's update.
Anno emphasized that The upcoming work will differentiate itself from the ongoing series of remakes and explore new creative directions for the franchise.
