Not long ago, Elon Musk – the owner of Twitter – declared that Microsoft’s collection and use of Twitter (now X) data to train artificial intelligence (AI) was illegal and threatened to sue. This company went to court. But now, Elon Musk himself is doing the same thing.
Specifically, billionaire Elon Musk’s social network X has “quietly” updated its privacy policy, stating that user data on this platform will be collected to train machine learning models and WHO.
X’s new privacy policy.
Article 2.1 of the privacy policy reads: “We may use information that we collect as well as publicly available information to help train our machine learning or artificial intelligence models for purposes stated in this policy”.
Thus, the data of user X will be used by Elon Musk’s AI company x.AI.
However, Elon Musk not only intends to use X data to train AI, but also for many other purposes. X claims to collect users’ biometric data to improve security to make accounts safer. The company explains that, thanks to matching the facial image with the ID, the account and the real owner can be accurately linked to each other, avoiding fraud, account theft and thereby making the platform ” more real”.
In addition, X announced that it will also launch a job search function similar to LinkedIn. Therefore, the platform will also collect information such as work history, study, skills… Elon Musk once stated that he wants to create a super app like China’s WeChat, gathering diverse features users need.
Currently, many large websites such as Amazon, Quora, The New York Times, CNN, ABC, Reuters… are preventing AI from accessing their content. According to Originality.AI, an AI discovery tool, nearly 20% of the top 1000 websites in the world are blocking crawler bots from crawling the web for AI use.
