The release date for the film adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s Monsters anime is officially set for 2024. French streaming service Animation Digital Network (ADN) announced the news via X on November 29, 2020. 2023. Sunghoo Park, formerly of MAPPA, will direct the series at his new animation studio, E&H Production. ADN’s announcement reads: “MONSTERS, in 2024 on ADN. A huge release is in the works… Eiichiro Oda’s one-shot, finally adapted into an anime! Without a doubt, One Piece lovers will be convinced by the prequel that recounts the adventures of samurai Ryuma ????“
Monsters was officially announced at One Piece Day 2023 with teaser images. The anime will be one episode long and adapted from the short story of the same name in the short story collection ‘WANTED!’ by Eiichiro Oda in 1998. The story focuses on the samurai Ryuma, who inspired the character of the same name in Oda’s next series, One Piece. Ryuma appeared in the Thriller Bark arc and most recently fought Zoro in Wano. Monsters receives a manga dub (vomic) in 2021, featuring voice actors Yoshimasa Hosoya (Ryuma), Sakamoto Maaya (Flare), Otsuka Hochu (Cyrano), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (DR) and Terashima Takuma (Bartender).
Besides Monsters, E&H Production’s Project Bullet is also being developed as a Disney+ Original. For fans unfamiliar with Park’s work, he directed season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and The God of High School. His most recent work, Ninja Kamui reunited him with Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai mangaka), whom he worked with on Garo: Vanishing Line.
