VIZ’s latest Mangag Musings piece has arrived, revealing that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has been hooked on the Godzilla franchise since watching Godzilla Minus One. Every week, Mangag Musings collects random thoughts from Weekly Shonen Jump mangaka. Oda’s ‘thoughts’ this week read: “Saw my first Godzilla! Minus One is amazing. I had to watch the first one then. Next is Shin.”
Godzilla Minus One has been making waves at the international box office — especially with its release in American theaters. Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One broke the opening weekend record for a Japanese live-action film with $11 million, surpassing Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village. The Demon Slayer franchise will have another chance to cash in at the box office next year, as the return dates for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- and Volume 11 of the Swordsmith Village Arc to theaters were just announced. along with Season 4 trailer and other information.
Oda will see a creature similar to Godzilla hit theaters in the near future, as the release date for the anime adaptation of E&H Productions’ Monsters manga was recently revealed. A teaser of the dragon-like creature was released previously.
VIZ Media licenses One Piece in North America. Eiichiro Oda’s manga series has been published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since July 1997, most recently volume 107. One Piece has over 500 million copies in circulation and is ranked on the Manga Best Seller List Oricon’s year 2023. VIZ describes the series: “Join Monkey D. Luffy and his brave crew in search of the ultimate treasure, One Piece.”
