Like One Piece protagonist Luffy, creator Eiichiro Oda has big dreams for the live-action series and beyond.
Oda’s annual message to fans was read again at Jump Festa 2024, which was recently publicly translated into English. Besides praising the success of the One Piece anime and the latest Film: Red, Oda also discussed the trials and tribulations of the live-action series. “We all know what kind of hurdles the series is facing, and on the surface it all seems clear,” Oda said. “I think it’s safe to say it wiped all of that out. I can’t tell you how much that means to me. Can you imagine a Japanese manga adaptation taking home an Emmy? Or even the Oscars? If I could at all Honestly, that would be my dream.”

We will make sure Season 2 keeps their Hollywood stars shining bright and strong!!”
Jump Festa 2024 was an especially big event for One Piece fans, where it was announced that an anime remake titled The One Piece of Attack on Titan and Spy x Family’s WIT Studio is in development, adapted series from the beginning. Oda’s statement “We will make sure Season 2 will make their Hollywood stars shine bright and strong!!” proves how far the live-action series has come, based on his comments shortly after One Piece Season 1 aired to critical acclaim (via Reddit). “With One Piece live-action being broadcast to the world,” he said at the time, “and being as successful as it is, I am very happy. It occurred to me that Inaki, who plays Luffy, and the rest of the cast will become big Hollywood stars. That means I will be friends with big Hollywood stars. IS THAT NOT GREAT?? Everyone in the cast, please don’t forget me (tears).”
