On October 6, 2017, Ryogo Narita, creator of Durarara and Baccano, announced that he would postpone his work after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Seven and a half years after his announcement, Narita is ready to call an end to his hiatus.
Narita shared an optimistic update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) while commenting on the Durarara 20th anniversary exhibition taking place at Ikebukuro in Toshima, Tokyo, Japan. “Animate decided to open a store just for Durarara,” Narita said. “I'm very sorry for not being able to keep up with everything since being diagnosed with an incurable illness, but as soon as the media chaos for other works subsides, I plan to continue selling D .” [Durarara] and B [Baccano] and other works, so please look forward to it…!”

In the same 2017 thread, Narita clarified that “everything other than my joints is fine,” explaining why he can type short social media posts but typing takes time. long will cause pain and force him to stop. Although Narita has shared updates about his health on social media over the years, this is the first time he has announced that he will be healthy enough to continue working. Durarara and Baccano — though both classified as in-play — have not received a new night-light release since 2016 in Japan. In addition to the above series, Narita also wrote light novels for the Fate/Stay Night and Bleach series.
