Gohan Gives Up on Becoming a Great Saiyaman in Tribute to The Amazing Spider-Man #50
Fanart Design by Anime Empire (@animeempirestudios)
An issue released more than five decades ago in 1967, The Amazing Spider-Man #50, by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., opened the three-part story “Spider-Man No More!”in which Peter ditches his spandex suit for good, just as the Kingpin, in his first comic book appearance, makes his move on his city. With a larger-than-life Spider-Man looking over his shoulder with his back turned on the cover, Romita added a resigned Peter Parker walking with his head down below him, setting the scene for a story that is still considered one of Spider-Man's best.
Copying Romita's layout down to the slightly off-center image, Anime Empire sketched Great Saiyaman with his back turned in his full superhero costume, then dressed Gohan in his full Peter Parker civilian outfit. Next, they changed the “Approved by the Comics Code Authority” stamp to “Approved by Anime Code Parody,” the “Marvel Comics Group” stamp to “Anime Empire Studios,” and replaced Spider-Man in the top left character box with Great Saiyaman. Anime Empire created a crossover tribute manga that shows what would have happened if Gohan had decided to stop fighting crime as the Great Saiyaman.
New Fanart Replaces Peter Parker and Spider-Man with Gohan and Great Saiyaman
Finally, in a fun twist to the title of the issue, Anime Empire replaces “Amazing” with “Great” and then hyphenates “Saiyaman” to “Saiya-Man,” which fits perfectly with Spider-Man’s naming convention in a way that puts a bow on top of an already gorgeous piece of art. Although Dragon Ball Gohan and Marvel Spider-Man They'll likely never meet officially, but fanart inspired by Anime Empire (@animeempirestudios) proves that if they ever met, they'd get along great.
