Since it was announced that Akira Toriyama, the famous manga artist responsible for the Dragon Ball series, passed away in March, fans have rallied to create a museum in his memory. The demand for such a museum became so strong that the mayor of Toriyama's hometown weighed in on the proposal.
According to the Mainichi Shimbun, Hideaki Omuran, the governor of Toriyama's hometown in Aichi Prefecture, “personally completely agrees” with fans that a museum should be built to commemorate the place where the late manga artist was born. Takashi Matsuyama, Toriyama's former official assistant and illustrator, agrees. “As a fan, I definitely want an Akira Toriyama Museum,” the 66-year-old artist said. “Fans around the world think so too.”
