Warning: SPOILERS chapter #98 of Dragon Ball SuperOngoing Super Dragon Ball manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Super: Superhero which started publishing a few months after the film’s initial release in 2022, is gaining popularity by making small changes for the better. For the most part, this manga arc is a simple adaptation of the film’s plot. However, the overall story is improving thanks to changes in the details of some scenes, including Pan’s best moment in the movie, which is even better than in the manga.
The manga adaptation of Super Hero previously gave Goten and Trunks more prominence, responding to some criticism from the fan community over their depiction in the film version of Super Hero. The plot’s climactic final battle against the monstrous Cell Max received mostly minor changes in presentation, with Cell Max himself being portrayed as a more powerful and impressive enemy and mostly All heroes have the opportunity to make more meaningful contributions in combat, including Pan.
Chapter #98 of Dragon Ball Super gives more impact and emotional weight to the events surrounding Pan’s first successful flight, allowing the young Saiyan hybrid to make a major contribution to the war, retrieving the Senzu bean that Gohan needs to restore his strength.
Pan saves the last Senzu bean in the Dragon Ball Super manga
In both the film and manga versions of Super Hero, Gohan’s daughter Pan is training with Piccolo and her ongoing character revolves around her frustration about not being able to fly. In the film, she finally masters this technique during her fight with Cell Max, flying herself to safety to avoid one of Cell Max’s attacks. Pan doesn’t actually contribute to the heroes’ efforts against Cell Max, but this moment is a wholesome and rewarding culmination of her character arc in the film. Pan’s first flight plays out differently in the manga adaptation of the story.
In the manga, the scene corresponding to Pan’s first flight in the film actually features Krillin grabbing her and carrying her to safety. With the release of Chapter #98, it’s now clear that this is simply building another set piece for Pan’s first flight. In the manga, she now plays an important role in the fight against Cell Max. Piccolo tries to give the heroes’ last Senzu Bean to Gohan, but Cell Max knocks it away. Pan jumped to the Senzu Bean, making the first successful flight to dive save and threw the Senzu Bean back to Gohan.
Pan is given more authority and has a larger role in the Dragon Ball Super manga
The manga version is an improvement for many reasons. First, Pan helping her father makes her flight more wholesome for the first time, giving her a more meaningful motivation than just running for her life. Second, like Goten and Trunks, she makes a significant contribution in the battle against Cell Max, giving Gohan a much-needed power boost at a crucial moment. By being given more agency and making a real contribution to helping heroes, Pan demonstrated that, even when the changes made are small, Super Dragon Ball manga still has the ability to tell a different version of the Superhero story and make some great moments even better.
