The Dragon Ball Super manga allows other characters to help defeat Cell Max
The main way the Dragon Ball Super manga improves on the story of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is by having other characters help defeat Cell Max. While the original film only had Gohan and Piccolo contribute to Cell Max’s ultimate defeat, the Super Dragon Ball The manga has Piccolo initially unable to hold Cell Max so Krillin, Android 18 and Gamma 1 all work together to destroy his wings so Piccolo can restrain him.. As a result, it never feels like the other characters are just standing around and not contributing, and the climactic version of the manga reads much better because of it.
Additionally, Gamma 1’s increased involvement towards the end of the battle is especially noteworthy. Not only was he the first to destroy one of Cell Max’s wings, but also Gamma 1 also uses a barrier to protect Piccolo from a fatal blow from Cell Max. Gammas are at the heart of the conflict in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and initially only Gamma 2 did anything significant against Cell Max, so it’s nice to see Gamma 1 being able to contribute in such a big way. so would greatly benefit the role he was intended to have in the overarching story.
