Fans were surprised when Super Dragon Ball create a premise for vegetarian to become the villain again, but since then, the series has unfortunately missed many subsequent opportunities to fulfill this promise. With Frieza once again returning to the game, Dragon Ball Super should explore this exciting development instead of pretending it never happened.
The Saiyan Prince first begins to display suspicious behavior while fighting on the planet Cereal against Granolah in chapter #74 of Dragon Ball Super. He emphasizes his joy at no longer having to worry about fighting on a planet he must protect and where he must save others by destroying Cereal’s historic landmarks and mock your opponent with it. Then, two chapters later, Vegeta attacks Goku when he wants to interfere in his match, before expanding on his earlier confession to Granolah that because he didn’t protect Earth, he He had no reason to fight alongside his old rival and explained that he would rather die than do so again.
Vegeta becoming a Devil could be Dragon Ball Super’s best plot
All of these moments presented a promising look at Vegeta standing on the brink before plunging back into the darkness of evil. However, oddly enough, Vegeta starts acting like nothing ever happened. After that, Vegeta wasn’t upset when Goku gained a new form of Ultra Instinct even though he was surpassed once again. Instead, he goes back to the same disappointing defeatist mindset he has espoused since Dragon Ball’s Buu saga. More sadly, Vegeta doesn’t seem all that flustered to learn that Goku was able to be this powerful thanks to a wish from his father with the Dragon Balls. After the evil “awakens” on the planet Cereal, Vegeta should be more obsessed with surpassing Goku as an enemy rather than a friendly adversary.
Of course, eager fans can still dare to hope that Vegeta’s changeover will happen soon. Currently, the manga is busy adapting the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and thus, can’t stray too far from the original. But since Frieza finally returned at the end of the previous season, the next story would be the best time to revisit Vegeta’s roots as a villain. It would be great to see Vegeta conflicted between his savage Saiyan nature and his desire to end his rivalry with Goku on one side and his mission to protect Earth and his family on the other.
Dragon Ball Super should revisit Vegeta’s darkest moment
One possible way that Dragon Ball Super could uncover Vegeta’s origins is by revisiting one of his dark moments in Dragon Ball. Despite having a family, Vegeta doesn’t bother to protect his wife or young son in the Android story when an explosion from Android 20 shoots the plane they are in the sky. Vegeta doesn’t even care to check if they’re okay, all he cares about is testing out his newfound Super Saiyan transformation. Frieza’s arrival on Earth could push the Saiyan Prince to the brink, and seeing Vegeta return to his villainous roots could be the best storyline yet. Super Dragon Ball ever had.
