Dragon Ball Super is more foresighted in its plot than some of Dragon Ball Z. Toriyama originally wanted Goku to have white hair earlier instead of blue, but saved it for later. Despite the planning, some passages in Dragon Ball Super still feel disjointed and vaguely connected.
A small clue provided by Dragon ball creator Akira Toriyama has revealed a surprising twist that helped make it happen Super Dragon Ball better Dragon Ball Z. “In Battle of Gods it was red, so I thought for Revival of “F” I should choose blue. That’s it (laughs). Actually, I thought about leaving it white, but then it would clash in color with the “next enemy”… so I thought I should save it for another time (laughs).” – Akira Toriyama
As part of the release of the Dragon Ball Super Volume #1 manga, manga illustrator Toyotaro interviewed Toriyama and asked about the origins of Super Saiyan Blue. The Dragon Ball author’s answer not only hinted at the next villain turning out to be the evil Kai Zamazu, but also showed that Dragon Ball Super’s arcs were more planned out than the weekly manga’s. Toriyama’s comments refer to Zamazu from DBS’s Future Trunks Saga, which began airing a few months after the manga’s first volume was published in April 2016. Goku and Vegeta fought Goku Black and Zamazu in a brutal manner. consistently in his Super Saiyan Blue form, contrasting effectively with Black’s pink-colored hair and Zamazu’s divine white hair. Even though Dragon Ball Super seems to be more planned out than DBZ, many of the anime’s plots still feel disjointed and vaguely connected. It’s a shame because many of the franchise’s best storylines were enhanced by previous story elements aligning with each other, such as the Saiyan Saga’s escalation to its clash with Frieza and its many rewards.
