Summary
Vegeta’s recent victory over Goku in a practice match could be a major turning point in their relationship and upset the delicate balance between them. Goku’s admission of being surpassed by Vegeta shows that he is just as upset about being second as Vegeta always is, proving that they are more similar than they appear on the surface. This new dynamic between Goku and Vegeta could reignite their rivalry, push them to up their game, and push them to reach new levels of power, especially with the threat of Black Frieza still lurking.
Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter #101Super Dragon Ball Not much has been done to change the dynamics of Goku And vegetableVegeta’s relationship is over, but chapter #101 proves that Vegeta’s recent victory over Goku may have finally disrupted that fragile balance. Such a change might be for the better, at least for fans.
Back in Dragon Ball Z, Goku and Vegeta got off to a rough start, to say the least, but when they found a common enemy in Frieza, the two Saiyans gradually grew closer until Vegeta became a friend. loyal and even a friend, even if he may never admit it. The biggest problem their relationship has always faced is Vegeta’s feelings of inferiority towards Goku as he is always the first to break new limits, this sometimes causes Vegeta to return to his evil ways (like in the Buu Saga).
Throughout Super, Vegeta and Goku have a fairly good relationship, Vegeta is more remorseful about his past, but their rivalry remains, as seen in the ending battle in chapter #100 (first shown shown in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero ), which Vegeta actually won.
Vegeta’s victory over Goku opens new doors for their friendship
Vegeta pulling off a good-to-goodness victory over Goku, after Goku even admitted he was superior, could be a huge turning point for the pair. For Vegeta, defeating Goku in a one-on-one fight is something he has been pursuing since the end of the Frieza Saga. Goku was the first to become Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, breaking the barriers right before Vegeta did and making him extremely angry. This softened as Goku and Vegeta pursued their separate paths towards Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego respectively, but the competitiveness remained.
Vegeta’s victory changes the dynamic that the two have had throughout the series, and it’s quite clear, as Vegeta gloats a bit, that Goku is just as annoyed at being second as Vegeta always is, proving the two are not so different as they sometimes appear. This twist could be a pretty fun and interesting twist, if it sticks, and there’s no reason Vegeta would give up his victory so easily. Vegeta certainly worked hard to get this win and if anyone can respect that it’s Goku. The series also takes the time to make this a fun one, addressing Vegeta’s famous frustrations.
With the threat of Black Frieza still looming over them, Both Goku and Vegeta need to up their game, and rekindling their competition by turning the tables might be just what they need to stay motivated. For Vegeta, it’s all about getting ahead of Goku when he’s actually surpassed him, while for Goku, this could be his motivation to push through to the next level. It will be interesting to see the two Saiyans change places for a while, so hopefully Super Dragon Ball won’t forget this new dynamic as the story continues.
