Dragon Ball Daima is bringing back the dragon god Shenron in a new animated series, and some new promotional material has provided an unusual look at the legendary dragon's big return. Dragon Ball will celebrate its 40th anniversary in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump later this fall, as Shueisha is doing its best to celebrate the original manga by the late Akira Toriyama.
Dragon Ball Daima will set a new version of Goku and Supreme Kai in the Demon Realm in a new adventure, all starting with a mysterious plot.
The anime has been teased somewhat through promotional materials for the film, and it will begin with a new wish made with the Dragon Balls. Whether it will be the Dragon Balls we know, or potentially a different set exclusive to Daima, fans will still get to see Shenron in action. Daima wouldn't be a Dragon Ball without some sort of dragon god scene.
Fans can now get a clearer look at the new dragon god in Dragon Ball Daima with some new promotional images for the legendary creature.
What will Shenron do in Dragon Ball Daima?
Shenron's role in the Dragon Ball series has changed a bit over the years since he first appeared in the manga. At first, Shenron was a being that could only be summoned after collecting all seven Dragon Balls. Shenron later became a way to save people after death in Dragon Ball.
The scope of Shenron's wish-granting abilities increases throughout Dragon Ball's development, and even begins to narrow in many ways when Dragon Ball Super reveals that Bulma used these wishes as beauty treatments in her later years.
It seems that Goku and the others are starting to rely heavily on these Dragon Balls, and they are still very dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands.
In Daima, a new plot at the beginning of the series reveals that the Dragon Balls will be used to transform Goku and the others into mini versions of themselves. This is what kicks off the journey into the Demon Realm, and it's likely that the Z-Warriors will encounter some new demonic villains never seen before in the series.
Dragon Ball Daima will officially premiere on October 11 in Japan. The story and characters are original from the late author of the Dragon Ball series – Akira Toriyama.
Masako Nozawa will lead the series as the voice of mini Goku, Yumiko Kobayashi as Supreme Kai (mini), Koki Uchiyama as Glorio, Fairouz Ai as Panzy, Showtaro Morikubo as Gomah, Junya Enoki as Degesu, and Yoko Hikasa as Dr. Arinsu.
Dragon Ball Daima will also feature an opening theme titled “Jaka Jaan” produced by Zedd, with vocals performed by CLIEVY and KEEN of C&K. The ending theme is titled “NAKAMA”, also produced by Zedd with vocals performed by AI.
