Spoilers for Dr.STONE New World Episode 1 The Return of Dr. Stone witnessed Senku and the villagers of Ishigami take their biggest leap: rediscovering agriculture.
Although the goal of Dr. Stone season 3 is about launching a ship that can cross the ocean, but there are quite a few obstacles that Senku and his colleagues face. will have to pass before that can happen. One of the biggest problems they faced, aside from actually building the ship, was the food that was likely to last long during their travels. So far, Ishigami has been primarily a fishing village, with their food occasionally supplemented with what they can get, as with their wild grain ramen from previous seasons. However, there simply wasn’t enough food for such a long journey, so there was only one option left – growing their own food from scratch.
Dr. Stone’s Senku revives agriculture
Their planned ship was intended to travel with both sail and engine, so they needed to find some oil to get the engine running efficiently enough to be useful. To that end, Senku and Ryusui had previously built a hot air balloon that they hoped would allow them to discover oil fields from the air. However, it turned out that wasn’t the only thing they could detect from the air. First, they discovered a herd of feral goats, likely to be re-domesticated, but they had to eat something nearby; sure enough, they discovered a large field of wild wheat that had taken over when the humans disappeared. Harvesting some of this wheat for seeds, the villagers were able to till the soil and sow the seeds, and Taiju even remembered how to use seashells as fertilizer, which greatly improved their crops.
While growing wheat obviously took a fair amount of time, they now had the raw materials needed to create sturdy foods like hard bread that could withstand a journey. transoceanic. Many villagers actually cried when they ate bread for the first time, because they finally had a steady supply of food. In the past, the villagers lived on luck as most of their food came from fishing; as some old people recall, there were years ago when there was simply not enough fish to go around and the villagers died of hunger. The Return of Agriculture is a hugely epic moment for the return of humanity in Dr. Stone, even outside the context of Senku’s oceanic mission.
Agriculture is a game changer for the people of Dr. Stone’s world, especially now that so many people resurrected from Tsukasa’s mighty Empire need food as well. While there are still a lot of problems to be solved, Senku has led these people to take another technological leap in Dr. Stoneonce again proving that science is essential to mankind.
