According to Flix Patrol, Jackpot! is the most viewed film in the world, dominating 74 countries. Regardless of what critics say, audiences are still watching because of the hilarious combination of John Cena and Awkwafina.
Jackpot! is set in 2030 when the state of California runs a deadly lottery. Every “drawing day,” a random person is chosen to win the billion-dollar jackpot. However, that “lucky” person is also targeted by the losers. Whoever kills the winner before the sun sets will win the money. However, no one is allowed to use guns.
The main character in the film is the out-of-date child actress Katie Kim (Awkwafina). She has just moved to Los Angeles (California) in hopes of continuing to pursue her acting career. The incident happened when Katie won a $3.6 billion lottery jackpot and obviously became the target of the whole city's hunt. She was lucky to meet Noel Cassidy (John Cena) – a professional bodyguard. His service is to protect lottery winners until the hunt ends, in exchange for a 10% fee of the prize. From here, the two begin a humorous and eventful escape journey.
Jackpot! is directed by Paul Feig. He is the filmmaker behind action comedies like The Heat (2013), Spy (2015) and Ghostbusters (2016)… The first time John Cena and Awkwafina acted together was enough to make the audience laugh out loud even though the plot was not too unpredictable and had many flaws.
The critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes for Jackpot! is just 32%. However, audiences found it entertaining enough to watch it a second time.
“Classified as an action comedy, this movie is entertaining throughout. There are very few breaks or lulls. The humor isn’t top-notch, but if you like hearing John Cena get his ass kicked, you’ll have plenty to laugh at.
The cast chemistry is good and everyone does their job, which is entertaining. I like Awkwafina's humor. The story is nothing special and stands out from similar films. The events are even quite absurd, but that's what's interesting about the film, they don't always make sense. This is a film to watch for laughs.
“I would definitely watch this again because I laughed so much. Overall, it is worth recommending to friends. It is not a unique movie, but it is certainly entertaining, and as long as you don't take yourself too seriously, you will find some funny things,” one reviewer on imdB wrote.
