Warning: Spoiler for Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc, episode 5That’s common in demon slayer to see demons take more and more monstrous forms during a battle, but one Slayer is turning the tide by unleashing his own transformed form – though it’s hard to tell if that’s the case. is a good thing or not.
Genya Shinazugawa is another Demon Hunter who joined the corps at the same time as Tanjiro, and therefore has no more experience than him. Aside from Tanjiro and Hashira Tokito of the Mist, Genya was one of the few assassins present at the Blacksmith’s Village when the Four and Five Superiors launched their attack. While Genya bravely stood up to the demons, he was mortally wounded, a spear pierced his chest, among other wounds. Genya chants a Buddhist prayer to maintain his focus as he continues to fight, but he is then absent for most of the fifth episode, leaving his fate in the balance. However, at the end of the episode, it is revealed a very different looking Genya form that has never been seen before.
The transformation of a demon slayer?
At the end of the episode, Genya has one of the manifestations of Demon Hunter Hantengu’s Four Superiors being pinned to a tree and decapitated, but is seen by Tanjiro, who has just taken down the other three, gasping for breath. and lean heavily. As Tanjiro approached his assassin, Genya turned abruptly, revealing a face with raised veins and black eyes with yellow pupils. The episode abruptly ends there, leaving Genya’s new status as a spoiler for the next episode.
Genya’s new transformation certainly looks demonic; The bulging veins are quite similar to the ones that Nezuko develops when she is serious. However, it’s important to remember that only Muzan Kibutsuji (and Lady Tamayo) can turn someone into a demon, so there’s no way Genya’s opponents can do this to him. Genya is also continuing to fight the demons, which further shows that he is not changing sides. Whatever happened to Genya was something he did to himself, knowingly or not. Genya is inherently a pretty unique Demon Hunter, thanks to his use of a sawed shotgun, and his brother Wind Hashira, so it’s possible Genya had access to some sort of technique without everyone must know. Genya was also able to stand up despite his severe injuries, so perhaps this transformation helped him deal with his previous injuries.
The truth about Genya’s transformation and whose side he is on will only be revealed in demon slayernext episode, so fans will have to wait until episode 6 to find out.
