When it comes to Soulslike games, most players will immediately think of solo-style games. Where gamers will have to overcome low-level bosses one by one, gradually developing their characters until they are strong enough to conquer the more difficult levels ahead. Elden Ring, Dark Souls and a series of other blockbusters all operate in this style. But a new project seems to be trying to change this. It is called Deadthbound – a game advertised as a “group” Soulslike, unique.
Developed by Trialforge Studio, Deathbound offers a unique take on the Soulslike genre. Most notably, it incorporates a multiplayer combat system that encourages swapping between characters during combat and using each character's specific skills in-game. This is reminiscent of the mechanics of Genshin Impact, but in a Soulslike fashion. Each character you swap between will have their own skill tree, perks, and powers, and players can combine or chain their attacks into powerful combos. The powers of all four characters can also be combined into more devastating “Morphstrikes” that accumulate over the course of combat.
To complicate matters even more, characters will have their own backgrounds, factions, and alliances. This can significantly affect gameplay, leading to different outcomes and states depending on the player's actions. Back to the plot, Deathbound is set in the world of Zieminal, centuries after the Goddess of Death caused the collapse of an ancient advanced civilization. In the post-apocalyptic city of Akratya, players must confront opposing forces on the path to saving the world.
Deathbound is currently not available for pre-order on Steam, but the game does have a specific release date, August 8. The good news for gamers is that a demo version of this blockbuster is now available on Steam, and is completely open for players to experience comfortably to get acquainted with this “unique” Soulslike.
