Even when it comes to manga like TriangleFate can work in mysterious ways, and somehow a Twitter user’s tweet in support of an eerie sci-fi novel turned into a campaign to re-publish the Trigun Maximum manga—and even stranger, it seems to be working.
Twitter user @maskofbun issued a demanding tweet late at night on May 7, 2023, begging readers to check out the novel This Is How You Lose the War of Time. The tweet went viral and the book skyrocketed to #3 on Amazon’s Best Sellers list. However, the user’s name at the time was related to Trigun’s Nicholas D. Wolfwood character, and @maskofbun took advantage of the limelight to make a new plea to the Dark Horse comic, asking a respectfully whether now that they have seen the collective power of the Trigun fandom, they will consider reprinting the classic series. The tweet later received more than 5,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets.
An unexpected return for Trigun Maximum?
The Trigun Maximum manga series, which lasted nearly 10 years after the 1998 original anime ended, is owned by Dark Horse Comics in the US. While Dark Horse kept Trigun Maximum available digitally, the series went out of print for years, sending real comic book prices skyrocketing and making the series difficult to reach for many fans. With the new success of Trigun Stampede this year, there has never been a better opportunity to do another print, but Dark Horse has remained fairly silent on the subject. However, with @maskofbun going viral, even the producer of Trigun Stampede tweeted that he bought This is How You Lose the Time War. Site Insider reached out to Dark Horse Comics for comment and received the following response:
“Dark Horse is well aware of the interest in the ‘Trigun’ manga, and while we can’t share specifics yet, fans should stay tuned for some exciting news soon. “
While this isn’t an exact confirmation, the fact that whatever’s going on with Trigun’s manga should be enough to get fans excited. The phrase even seems to suggest that whatever they are referring to was done in a short time, perhaps a direct response to the popularity of Trigun Stampede earlier this year.
Fan Triangle Those who have long waited for manga to become more affordable to own may still want to keep their fingers through this point, but these rumblings are the first sign in a while. It’s been a long time, and it’s something to celebrate – even if it arose from such a strange event.
