Episode 2 of The Dangers In My Heart Season 2 is finally out and in my previous review, I predicted that Yamada and Ichikawa would hug and warm each other. Even so, I still had the surprised Pikachu expression on my face when they hugged. I’d also like to point out that this might be the weakest racing scene in the entire series, but it’s not all bad because the episode continues a consistent, well-paced story. Regardless, the episode was as great as ever.
Titled “I’m Growing Up,” the episode clearly portrays the two of them facing their insecurities, puberty, and emotions. As a bonus, the two seem like a married couple in this movie. The way Yamada takes care of Ichikawa like a wife is really cute. When she cooks for him, prepares clothes for him, and even dresses cutely just for him to see, she is so sweet. It shows how much she likes Ichikawa and not just to some degree. Not to mention, she also “accidentally” pinned Ichikawa down on the bed to avoid seeing the bottle he gave Yamada in episode 6. first season. Among these touching scenes in the episode, my favorite was the scene where Yamada opened up to Ichikawa about her insecurities, and here’s why.
From the beginning of the series, Yamada was introduced as this “perfect girl”. She was the epitome of perfection—beautiful, popular, and possessed of a seemingly ideal personality. However, we find out that Yamada is just an ordinary girl. She’s not particularly great at anything, isn’t top of her class, doesn’t possess any talents or skills, and she has difficulty reading social cues. She just has the body of a model, which is why many people think she’s perfect but in reality, she’s far from it and that’s okay. As Focalors from Genshin Impact said, “Her imperfections are what make her perfect,” which is why despite all of this, her charm is truly The problem lies in her imperfect character.
Ichikawa is also in the same boat as Yamada. Although he was initially portrayed as a sassy and socially awkward boy, he also defied expectations. As the story progresses, we see his caring and empathetic side, challenging the stereotypes associated with him. This is the strength of the story in The Dangers In My Heart. It seems like two middle school students are living in completely different worlds, but in the end, they are quite similar. After all, they’re both normally tough middle schoolers and I think it’s great that they found each other.
Overall, Danger in My Heart Season 2 episode 2 is a great sequel. It brought us closer to the main characters and we actually got a preview of them as a couple. I also want to mention how great Shun Horie’s voice acting was when Ichikawa had to deal with changing his voice. The voice actor did a great job portraying the self-realization phase that each guy goes through, almost like he dug into his past and internalized it for that scene. Finally, we meet Yamada’s dad (or should I say “Yamadad?”) and his appearance answers the question of why Anna is such a tall girl.
The Dangers in My Heart Part 2 is being broadcast online on Bilibili and HIDIVE.
