Sometimes, it’s okay to be a little possessive towards the person you love, but the other person must feel comfortable about it. We’ve seen a few moments of Kyotaro gradually expressing how much he wants to keep Anna for himself, but this episode takes that as its main focus. He follows Anna when he finds out she’s going to a party full of boys and becomes defensive every time another boy compliments her. You could argue that Kyotaro is entering some uncomfortable territory. However, that’s balanced with him constantly pointing out how scary he is and how much he doesn’t want Anna to see him that way. It’s also funny because he’s so bad at hiding his emotions when other characters push their buttons. It also helps that Anna has shown multiple times that she wants to belong to Kyotaro and has had possessive moments as well. They hit it off even in the immature aspects of their personalities.
I knew they wouldn’t start dating right away after last week’s amazing confession. The story doesn’t completely jettison the confession, but it is shelved in favor of other solutions, such as a sequel to the Valentine’s Day episode. Kyotaro feels extremely insecure about what to give Anna for the white holiday and even goes so far as to ask Hara for help. The parallels between Kyotaro and Anna as well as Hara and Kenta can be clearly seen as both are also in limbo with an undefined relationship despite having fewer problems expressing themselves.
I like how the episode leads viewers to believe that Kyotaro hasn’t chosen anything to give Anna yet, and he even lists things that wouldn’t make good gifts, like jewelry or food. Only at the end do we see that he got her the exact things he said he was so nervous to buy in the first place. Kyotaro knows Anna. Of course, she loves gifts, and now she has something to wear to show that she belongs to someone. The problem isn’t that they’re out of sync and don’t have great chemistry; they are holding back from expressing themselves fully. The cherry on top ended the episode with Kyotaro explaining how cute Anna is after spending the entire episode unable to do so.
