Warning: Spoilers for Sasaki and Peeps episode 3!!A new anime titled Sasaki and Peeps that has proven to be one Crunchyrollthe most complicated isekai has now officially overturned not only the genre’s central plot – but also the major plot points of the series in what could be called a “dual Isekai”. Of the two worlds in which the eponymous dynamic duo travel freely, the first three episodes of Sasaki and Peeps clearly establish that the house where modern-day Saski was born serves as the series’ battlefield.
Aside from Inverted Isekai, most other regular isekai usually see the main character transported to a magical realm where they go on epic quests or fight in major wars. “Double Isekai”, where the main character has access to both worlds, like I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too almost always treats fantasy lands this way .
This is not the case with Sasaki and Peeps, an adaptation of the light novel series by writer Buncololi and illustrator Kantoku.
Volume 3 attempted to turn the modern world into a land of epic battles
Based on the original novel series by Buncololi & Kantoku
By episode 3, the roles of both worlds were clearly decided. Sasaki uses the fantasy world to make money by selling modern gadgets and partaking in free delicious meals thanks to a restaurant he helped establish there. However, the magical power that his inverted isekai bird companion Peeps taught him now draws Sasaki into a secret government office from his own world to recruit and defeat the so-called is the Psychic. In a startlingly ironic twist, Sasaki’s views on this government job are identical to those of other isekai protagonists, who just want to live the “slow life” in their new fantasy world but accidentally drawn into the action, just like in I Shall Survive Making Potions! The difference is that in Sasaki’s case, it happened in his home country and not abroad.
The first two volumes of Sasaki and Peeps helped position the functions of both worlds to serve an important purpose, but volume 3 clearly goes out of its way to maintain them, solidifying their respective roles. them as they are. In this latest episode, a real war breaks out in the fantasy world and could easily sweep Sasaki and Peeps into a long, action-packed story. However, both of them were clearly on the sidelines, the fight was mainly of an explanatory nature. The series goes even deeper into the specific trade they did there, mainly documented through the very sophisticated trade deals Sasaki made with two separate people.
Without the real world element, Sasaki and Peeps could easily be interpreted as a series about trading in a fantasy world, sounding like a stereotypical isekai story told over and over again. Meanwhile, Sasaki fought twice in the modern world against the Psychics, once when he saved his future mate and another time when his team was ambushed by a group of Psychics. feeling cheated. Correct form, Sasaki and Peeps‘ recent reversal action isekai’s central trope serves as further evidence that this new series could very well be one of the most complex entries of the genre on Crunchyroll. Hopefully this won’t be exposed anytime soon, if ever.
