Crunchyroll announced the anime adaptation at industry conference Anime Expo in July 2022. Crunchyroll describes the story:
It’s been more than a decade since the “gates” suddenly appeared—paths that connected our world to another dimension. Since then, some people have awakened supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters”. Hunters make a living by using their powers to conquer the dungeons inside the portal. In this world of demanding customers, low-level hunter Jinwoo Sung is known as “the weakest hunter in humanity”. One day, Jinwoo was seriously injured when he ran into a high-level double dungeon hidden within a low-level dungeon. Just then, a mysterious quest window appeared in front of him. On the brink of death, Jinwoo decided to accept the quest and started leveling up… while the others did not.
Shunsuke Nakashige (Mother Goddess’s Dormitory) is directing the anime series at A-1 Pictures, and Noboru Kimura (Gundam Build Divers, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!) is the main writer. Tomoko Sudo (Alice in Borderland, Fragtime) designed the characters and Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Kill la Kill, Mobile Suit Gunma UC) composed the music.
Sibling idol group BTS TOMORROW X TOGETHER and composer Hiroyuki Sawano (SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]) will perform the opening theme song “LEveL”.
The manhwa adapted from Chugong’s Solo Leveling novel series, with illustrations by DUBU, debuted on Webtoon services in March 2018 and ended in December 2021. Yen Press published the manhwa and original novel in English. Kadokawa published the manhwa in Japanese under the title Ore Dake Level-Up na Ken (I’m the only one who leveled up).
Manhwa is also inspiring Korean live-action adaptations.
