Studio Deen, Sasaki and Miyano: Graduation’s Boy’s Love will hit Crunchyroll later this month.
Sasaki and Miyano’s first feature film, which chronicles the protagonist’s emotional departure from high school, debuted in Japanese theaters earlier this year. Anime streaming service Crunchyroll recently announced that the series will be available to stream starting September 28 at 5pm Pacific Time in all major territories outside of Asia. To celebrate the upcoming release, Crunchyroll also revealed an English-subtitled trailer for the film on its official YouTube channel.
Sasaki and Miyano’s theatrical debut features the same creative team as the anime series. Shinji Ishihira (Fairy Tail) and Yoshiko Nakamura continue to serve as Director and Screenwriter. Masaki Mayuzumi and Makii Fujii return as Art Directors and Character Designers. Miracle Chimpanzee, who performed Sasaki and Miyano’s opening theme, also provided the theme song for Graduation. As for the cast, Yusuke Shirai (Tokyo Mew Mew New) and Soma Saito (Haiikyu!) take on the roles of Sasaki Shumei and Yoshikazu Miyano, respectively.
Sho Harusono’s Sasaki and Miyano manga debuted on the online manga platform “Comic Pixiv” in 2016. The series tells the story of Yoshikazu Miyano, a shy high school student who loves BL manga. His life changes forever the day he meets Sasaki Shumei, a kind upperclassman who attracts Miyano’s attention after he breaks up a fight for the boy’s safety. From that day onwards, Sasaki began trying to learn more about Miyano. Eventually, the two developed feelings for each other and started dating. Graduation chronicles the couple’s efforts to maintain their relationship as they move into the next phase of their lives.
The film adaptation of Sasaki and Miyano’s anime series premiered in January 2022. The entire series is considered by many to be a highlight of the BL romance genre due to its sensitive and wholesome depiction of romance high school romance. As of October 2022, the manga series currently consists of nine tankobon volumes, having sold over 1.7 million copies worldwide. Its popularity also prompted Harusono to publish a spin-off manga in 2011 called Hirano and Kagiura, about the relationship between Sasaki and Miyano’s classmates, Taiga Hirano and Kagiura Akita. Like Sasaki and Miyano, the series is still ongoing, with new chapters periodically released in the monthly Comic Gene magazine.
Sasaki and Miyano Season 1 is available in both subtitled and dubbed versions on Crunchyroll. Both the manga and its spin-off are available in English on Yen Press.
