Merchandise from retailers United Publications has sent us news that they will be withdrawing from the anime and manga retail market.
UK-based retailers and publishers regularly attend anime conventions in the UK, they are also present at MCM London Comic Con. You may remember them by their bold yellow banners with black text similar to warning signs. They are a popular source of imported anime DVDs and blu-ray discs, but also have many manga and character collections.
Anime fans of a certain generation will remember them fondly from the London Anime Club (which operated until 2008) as one of the two main retailers there. Fans would place orders at the club and discover new titles on the sellers’ tables and enthusiastically exchange recommendations.
However, changes and reconciliation in the market made retailing anime and manga impractical for them and they gradually began to scale back their business in that aspect.
We’d advise you to check their website for bargains, as MVM have slashed prices on all titles as they reduce stock for the new year.
The whole story
Details are as follows:
We are sad to inform you that United Publications will cease participating in the Anime/Manga retail market at the end of 2023.
Partly due to MANY changes in the Anime/Manga market (Not all of them for the better).
For over 25 years we have been supporting our customers, delivering all the latest and greatest Anime and Manga titles.
A lot has changed in those years Anime has evolved from subtitled VHS video tapes for fans and photocopied fan magazines into the huge industry it is today. We think we’ve played a small role in growing the Fandom, even if the credit really goes to you.
What was once hard to find is now easy, shows can be streamed straight to your screen, titles are ordered directly from UK Publishers and there are now many titles available. Manga published is more than readable.
It’s time for us to make a change too.
United Publications is not going away, we will continue to publish and move on to new Manga projects.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years
