One of the saddest anime and game series of all time, Clannad, has received a special limited edition to celebrate its 20th anniversary, scheduled for an international release for fans around the world.
Clannad has received a gorgeous new watch through Anime Collection to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original game. The watch is limited to just 2,000 units, is scheduled to release in mid-December 2024, and will cost 22,000 yen (about $155 USD). The item features several nods to the franchise's history, such as dates around the watch face for notable releases, such as April 28, 2024, marking Clannad's first PC Limited Edition, February 23, 2006, marking the PS2 version, and July 4, 2019, marking the Nintendo Switch release. Readers can see images of the watch and details on the design and purchase below.
Clannad's 20th Anniversary Watch Is a Tribute to One of the Saddest Anime of All Time
The “CLANNAD 20th Anniversary Chronograph Watch” can be purchased from the Anime Collection website, where international sales are handled through the WorldShopping shipping service. The watch is introduced as, “To those who spent their youth with ‘CLANNAD’: The 20th Anniversary Watch. A heartwarming story that embraces ‘family’, ‘friends’, and ‘this town’. A timeless masterpiece of romantic adventure that, after 20 years, will once again mark time with you. Limited to 2000 special editions. Quantities are limited, so make sure you don’t miss it.” The Hikarizaka High School uniform is inspired by the cream-colored sub-dial of the watch, which features 13 luminous spheres that gently glow in the dark. The school emblem is engraved on the dial, with a double ring pattern on the jacket cuff surrounding the inside of the dial engraved with the number “20”. The watch strap is available in blue or steel grey.
Clannad was first adapted into a film in 2007 by Toei Animation before being adapted into a television series the same year by the iconic Kyoto Animation. Like many other titles from KyoAni and game developer Key, Clannad is known for its heartbreak, with emotional highs quickly followed by emotional lows. The series is known for its depth and ability to make fans empathize with the characters—qualities highlighted in CBR's list of 10 Times Clannad Broke Our Hearts. KyoAni most recently wrapped up the highly anticipated Sound! Euphonium Season 3 this year, and is expected to announce a new project on September 21 following its cryptic post on X, below.
Sentai Filmworks has licensed Clannad and Clannad: After Story (Season 2), meaning fans can watch all 49 episodes on HIDIVE. The first season is officially described as: “Tomoya is a bitter student until he meets Nagisa. As their friendship blossoms, his life begins to take a new direction.”
