Chapter 139 of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man — “A Chair’s Feelings” — opens by answering questions left over from the previous installment. The stranger who introduces himself to Denji as the Sword Demon reveals that he is a hybrid under Makima’s control and was part of the final battle between the Demon Control and the Chainsaw Man. It is then revealed that the hybrid from Denji’s past is named Miri Sugo and he will be transferring to Denji’s school. This annoys the main character because Sugo immediately gets the attention of the girls in the class.
Later, Denji talks to Sugo while acting as the man for his bodyguard, Fumiko. Sugo reveals that he is a high-ranking member of the Chainsaw Man Church and so are many of Makima’s hybrid weapons. He then offered Denji a position in this organization. After some deliberation, Denji declined the offer. Sugo then says that he wants to be Denji’s friend to thank him for helping him escape Makima’s clutches. When he leaves, he claims Denji can sleep with as many girls as he wants if he joins the church. In response, Denji did the full 180 and said he would.
This latest chapter provided an important revelation regarding the ending of Chainsaw Man Part 1. The revelation that one of Makima’s hybrid weapons was alive has provided the basis for a lot of fan speculation. One such theory is that Bomb Devil Reze will return. Reze is a fan-favorite character from the series that still inspires Bomb Devil cosplays to this day, despite not appearing since Episodes. 11 of comics.
