Chapter 137 of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man ends with Denji being attacked in a karaoke bar while an unnamed girl sings a song, implying that she is his enemy. The latest chapter – 138, “Sword Man” – reveals that this girl is not actually his enemy, as she protected him from one of the attackers. Yoshida then appears and announces her name, Fumiko Mifune. He informs Denji that she is his new personal bodyguard and part of Public Safety. Denji questions why she didn’t save him when he was under attack, and Fumiko said that she didn’t like her song being interrupted.
The story then shifts to Asa and Yoru watching the news themselves. Asa seemed pleased when they called her beautiful, while Yoru expressed joy at seeing how their act of hunting demons brought them fame. However, Asa later stated that she felt intimidated by the attention, only to flash a sly grin showing that she was enjoying it more than she showed. The chapter ends with Denji being approached by a stranger calling himself Sword Man.
The Rise of Chains Man
The Chainsaw Man franchise remains one of the most popular and influential modern cartoons on the market. It recently celebrated the release of volume 15 in Japan with the 8-bit Chainsaw Man mobile game recreating the chap where Denji and Asa run away from the Fallen Devil. Fujimoto has been writing and drawing the series since 2018 and expressed his jealousy of Oshi no Ko’s Aka Akasaka, who quit illustrating to focus on writing.
Fujimoto’s popular series is considered part of the “Dark Shonen Trio”, an anthology of shounen stories with dark themes, violence, and horror elements. Other properties included in the group are Hell’s Paradise and Jujutsu Kaisen. Like Chainsaw Man, both titles are adapted from critically acclaimed anime thanks to Studio MAPPA. JJK Season 2 recently completed its first season and Hell’s Paradise Season 1 premiere has been widely acclaimed in the spring of 2023.
The next chapter of Chainsaw Man will be available on August 15 through Viz Media, Shōnen Jump, and the Manga Plus app. Additionally, the Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Hell’s Paradise anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
