Chained Soldier episode 7 has 23 minutes of character development, fan service, and tons of fast-paced dialogue. The defeat from another fairly brief battle opened the door for Squad 6 to relax a bit, but more importantly build up to what was still to come. Was this the best episode of the season? Far-out. That said, it’s still another week’s worth of enjoyment that has paved the way for something much greater that the rest of the season will encompass.
Tenka’s ability
Tenka’s ability to warp space is something that has been shown to be incredibly powerful in manga, anime, comics, movies, etc. It is nothing new but has always proven to be a major obstacle to good. better or better. That being said, the fact that Tenka can smile while taking Airen through a black hole she suddenly created is terrifying no matter which side you’re on.
Sahara emphasizes that everyone’s ability to train is rooted in their own nature or intentions, much like Yachiho’s control over time involves wanting to spend time with Himari. So when we think about Tenka being able to control space. It’s almost impossible to guess what’s inside Tenka right now, especially the way she obsesses over Yuuki. All I know is that she fits the “built differently” requirement to a T.
Character Development, Fan Service
Character development with the female cast in Chained Soldier almost goes hand in hand with fan service. Since Yuuki was used by both Kyouka and Himari in this episode, he received double the “reward”. And at this point, it became clear that, first, Himari didn’t seem to mind no matter how much her tsundere side tried to deny it, and second, Kyouka didn’t seem to like it. “share” Yuuki with anyone else.
We even get a small scene of Shushu being jealous when Himari goes with Yuuki to Team 6’s base. This common harem trope becomes more and more obvious, but it also shows the development of the characters surprisingly. Initially, besides Mei, they all considered Yuuki nothing more than a servant or a dog. Now, they begin to see him as a valuable member of Team 6. Most importantly, they all grow in their own ways because of this obsession.
Himari begins to develop powers and becomes closer to her sister. Kyouka is becoming a better leader of Team 6. And Shushu, well, she’ll get there after cleaning her room first. On the other hand, Yuuki’s development seemed to have stagnated. He did not waver in his determination at any time and he did not change as a person. Perhaps the day will come when he will no longer be embarrassed when doing his daughter’s laundry. Aside from getting into fights and having the occasional funny facial expressions, I’d like to see Yuuki progress a bit more as a person other than what his subconscious desires.
Speedlines, Oh speedlines
The Chained Soldier has neither the best of the world’s production nor the worst—that’s okay, with small peaks. However, in this episode, I couldn’t help but notice that the speed lines were just as excessive as in Edens Zero Season 2. The dialogue scenes all had them. The action scenes had them. Even the split-screen moments have them. That’s a lot of speed lines.
Look, there’s nothing wrong with them in moderation. Sometimes its intended use makes sense, especially with high-speed characters and objects (hence the name). The classic anime Speed Racer essentially coined this aspect of production, and it has become a staple in a lot of anime since then, mostly older ones or for comedic moments in the series. modern anime. With that said, the overuse of speed lines makes the episode feel like it wasn’t as well produced as it could have been.
The lack of background art and background animation in an episode with ongoing action is quite disappointing. The animation in Tenka’s black hole moment looks amazing, and it shows what the series can deliver when it comes to the peaks rather than the valleys.
Summary of The Chained Soldier Episode 7
The establishment of a new villain after we were introduced to Yuuki’s sister, Aoba, a few episodes ago begins to expand the world of Mato a bit, which was much needed. Yuuki himself even questioned whether the other side was organized into different teams like the Demon Defense Corps. Getting a taste of Reiren’s abilities and a sneak peek at Shikoku is like getting the ultimate free sample at the supermarket. You want more, but unfortunately you’ll have to wait — in this case a week.
All in all, it wasn’t a bad episode. Yuuki always tries to bring a certain level of humor to bring a breath of fresh air to each episode when needed. Even the development of Yachiho’s obsession and Yuuki’s discovery of it made me laugh. But next week will continue the second half of this season, and as the clock runs out until the season finale, I expect the Chained Soldier to maintain his consistent form all season.
