Multiple spin-offs of Cells at Work!
The franchise has released an impressive number of spin-offs over the years, one of the most notable being Cells at Work! CODE BLACK, adapted into its own anime. The phrase “CODE BLACK” refers to the setting of an unhealthy human body, which this series labels the “black environment,” but the other spin-offs and their titles are a bit simpler. . The most recent side story manga, Cells at Work! Muscle comes out earlier in 2023 and focuses on the muscles of the human body, while other series like Cells at Work! Ladies, cells at work! Babies and cells at work! Platelets did the same as their title advertised. With that in mind, fans can assume what they’re up to with Cells at Work! Medicine and cells at work! Cat, the latter could mark the first time the series has used a non-human body as a setting.
2023 is a year in development for the Cells at Work franchise, not only releasing three new spinoff manga, but also reaching an agreement with Warner Bros. Reports have stated that the production will be one of the largest in the history of Japanese cinema, which is understandable given the series’ themes. Cells at Work focuses on the duo Red Blood Cells AE3803 and White Blood Cells U-1146, creatures that live and work inside the human body along with trillions of their microscopic congeners. The two fight to keep their bodies strong against threats like pneumonia, tinea versicolor, and cancer while their adventures subtly educate audiences about these biological processes. , making Cells at Work one of the most successful educational manga of all time.
Cells at work! Medicine and cells at work! Cat will begin serialization in Weekly Shonen Sirius on May 25, 2023. The previous spin-off series, as well as the manga’s original, are available in English from Kodansha USA.
