Bucchigiri Episode 9 Review: Another episode has been dropped from this unusual anime series and I expect good things from Matakara’s Character development. Read on to learn more.
Overview of Bucchigiri Volume 9
Bucchigiri?! is a new anime series and an original anime from MAPPA, the studio behind popular shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. The movie is scheduled to come out this January, so it’s almost here!
The series has been described as a return to the thug/Yanki anime genre, which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s with shows like Cromartie High School and Great Teacher Onizuka.
Directed by Hiroko Utsumi and story by Taku Kishimoto, the series also features music composition by Michiru Ōshima, while character designs are by Takahiro Kagami.
The opening theme, “Sesame” by Kroi, sets the tone and the ending theme will be Love je t’aime (らぶじゅてーむ)” by Mahiru Coda (甲田まひる).
I’ve tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I have to cover in order to give a proper response.

Bucchigiri episode 9 review and summary: Even Mahoro feels sorry for Matakara, but Arajin doesn’t
Finally, we have an episode, which doesn’t begin with Arajin pretending to be Mahoro. Here, at the beginning, we see Matakara still seeing a dark figure which he tries to escape but cannot. On top of that, now that he’s possessed by Ichiya, his soul constantly pushes Matakara to use his power.
This was an extremely stressful and sad time for Matakara as his brother was not around. Now he is truly alone when his closest family member, the person Matakara greatly respected, had to receive such a tragic fate. Therefore, the most important thing Matakara needs right now is support from friends, people who really care about him. Sadly, Arajin, who can only think of girls, is not the right person for that task.
He is truly unforgiving and has no feelings of appreciation or gratitude towards those who care about him. His love and obsession for Mahoro has become so unbearable that it even affects those around him.
Even someone like Mahoro, who was an obsessive fan of her brother, heard about Matakara’s situation and she felt bad. Mahoro also willingly went to Arajin and reprimanded him for not supporting his friend and left with the threat that she would only talk to him when he considered Matakara’s feelings. But guess what? Arajin completely misunderstands the matter and suspects Mahoro likes Matakara. As if that was important right now in a situation where his friend was going through such a difficult time.
The final point we got in this episode was somewhat expected because of the way the story was building towards this point. Now that Matakara has nothing to lose, he will certainly no longer be the understanding friend with the heart of a saint. It is natural that at some point he will be restless and come out of his shell. Hopefully his arc will be more interesting to witness and his actions will be able to awaken some sense in our protagonist, who needs a rude awakening.
Identify
If we talk about an anime series with a likable main character then this one is absolutely not on my list. Arajin is not a character I resonate with, so I can’t support his ideas or believe his justifications for what he does. The only reason why this anime is still entertaining enough is because of the fighting and the other characters who can attract your attention. My advice is to watch the show mainly to see the MAPPA animation, instead of watching the hero, who doesn’t show much heroism.
